| In a modern society, functioning sewage systems are an essential infrastructure for urban areas. As the figure displays, China's provinces have rather different standards in terms of sewage system capacity per urban inhabitant. Especially the remarkably short network of sewer pipelines per 10,000 inhabitants in Qinghai, Shaanxi, and Shanxi should be a reason for concern. The largest network of sewer pipelines per 10,000 inhabitants was reported from Tianjin, Hainan, and - surprisingly - from Tibet. | |||||||||
