The success rate in patent applications is the percentage of granted patents among patent applications (calculated separately for inventions and all other patents). It is most interesting that Beijing has relatively low success rates in patent applications (rank 17) - far lower than, for instance, Shanghai or the province of Guangdong (places 3 and 4 in our ranking). It is also remarkable that Hainan, Tianjin Fujian, Guangzi, or Guizhou have quite high success rates in their patent applications - higher than Beijing.
