Since 1990, China has expanded its
teaching staff significantly - from 8.2 million to 12.6 million in
2006. The number of engineers in state-owned enterprises, on the
other hand, peaked in 1996, but declined afterwards. In 2006, the
number of engineers was roughty the same as in 1990. Obviously,
private enterprises are absorbing more of the engineering staff in
recent years. Scientific and technical staff in state-owned health
care institutions increased only slightly from 2.7 million in 1990
to 3.6 million in 2006. |
