China gets control over Hong Kong's sovereignty.
1997, July 1
Occupied by the United Kingdom in 1841, Hong Kong was formally ceded by China in 1842. According to an agreement signed by and the PRC and the UK on December 19, 1984, Hong Kong becomes the Hong Kong Special Administrative Zone on July 1, 1997.
