According to a report released today, China’s AIDS epidemic shows no signs of abating with an estimated 70,000 new HIV infections occuring in 2005. The total number of people infected with HIV in China is now estimated at 540,000 to 760,000. The difference to previous higher estimates is not due to a real decline in HIV prevalence, but a result of improved HIV data collection and estimate of the most ‘at-risk populations’ in the country.
