Areva has finalized an agreement with China's Guangdong Nuclear Power Corporation to build two nuclear power plant within the next six years. The plants will start producing electricity by 2014. This deal is part of a much larger plan of the Chinese government to build 32 nuclear power plants by 2020. China is increasingly moving towards nuclear power to meet her massively increasing energy demands and France is a key player in the global nuclear power market. The agreement was signed by Presidents Hu Jintao and Nicolas Sarkozy, who is heading a large French delegation of industrialists to China. During that visit French companies have secured trade agreements with China amounting to almost 20 billion euros ($30 billion).
