U.S. Justice Department announces that several individuals are being charged with spying for China.

2008, February 11

U.S. Justice Department officials announce that a U.S. government official and up to four Chinese nationals are being charged with spying on the United States and giving U.S. military secrets to the Chinese government (see: C-SPAN video below).
Comment: It appears that both China and Russia have intensified intelligence operations in the United States and Europe in recent years. While Russia is primarily interested in political and strategic background information, China is clearly focusing on industrial, high-tech, and military espionage.
