Xi Jinping, born 1 June 1953, is a senior leader of the People's Republic of China. He currently serves as the top-ranking member of the Secretariat of the Communist Party of China, the country's Vice President, Vice-Chairman of the Central Military Commission, and Principal of the Central Party School. Xi is the 6th ranked member of the Politburo Standing Committee, China's de facto top power organ. Western media see Xi's promotion as a sign that he is expected to succeed Mr. Hu Jintao as China's leader.
