The Fifth National People's Congress adopts a new Constitution of the People's Republic of China in 1982 - with further amendments in 1988, 1993, 1999 and 2004. Before 1982, the Constitution of the People's Republic of China had been revised three times: in 1954, 1975, and 1978. The 1982 Constitution provides an extensive legal framework for economic reforms in the 1980s.
