A team of Chinese researchers has sequenced the genome of Oryza sativa L. ssp. indica, the most widely cultivated rice subspecies. Their publication in the prestigeous journal "Science" is a major breakthrough for the Chinese genetic reseach community. The success is particularly impressive, because the whole project, from start to finish, was completed in about two years.
